a5c7b9f00b The archetypical renegade Texas Ranger wages war against a drug kingpin with automatic weapons, his wits and martial arts after a gun battle leaves his partner dead. All of this inevitably culminates a martial arts showdown between the drug lord and the ranger, and involving the woman they both love. J.J. McQuade is a Texas Ranger who doesn't exactly follow the rules, is unruly, and prefers to work alone, which earns the nickname, Lone Wolf McQuade. When he discovers some criminals have automatic weapons, he discovers that they were stolen from the military. He tries to handle on his own, usual, but in the end, an old friend, and a prisoner, whom he was keeping under wraps, are killed. He is then relieved of duty. But then an FBI agent, who also wants to get these guys, offers to help McQuade, and along with a rookie, they track down the mastermind. (Minor Spoilers)

I used to own a video in my youth that used to have the preview for this movie, yet I never got round to seeing this movie until now. What can I say? It's probably your standard Chuck Norris movie!

The plot revolves around J.J. McQuade (Chuck Norris), a Texas Ranger who works alone and fights crime his own way, hence the lone wolf tag. He's a genuine American tough guy from Texas who is a family man, yet a messy beer-drinking rogue at the same time. When a young police officer, Kayo (Robert Beltran) is assignedhis new partner, McQuade doesn't want to know about it. Meanwhile, his good pal in Dakota (I.Q. Jones)) is getting forced into retirement. Things take a turn for the worse for McQuade when a gun-smuggling ring commits multiple murder on a freeway, which involves his precious daughter in hospital, while her boyfriend gets murdered. McQuade decides to set out to uncover the ring- which is led by a karate-loving tycoon named Wilkes (David Carradine)- who has an unwilling partner in Lola! She becomes McQuade's love interest, while he and his newfound partner continue to hunt down the bad guys, though Wilkes proves to be quite the adversary.

David Carradine (Kill Bill) doesn't do much in this film to become a memorable villain. His character isn't given much depth. Chuck Norris does a good job being the likable hero, wellbeing decent during the action sequences, but he always seems to struggle when actual acting is required and his character never seems to have any internal struggle. McQuade's inability to not have the final word with the characters around him becomes a little tiresome after awhile, partly because his character has no real depth or wit. The film's plot is predictable, and it rarely acknowledges the reasoning and logic behind the motives of certain characters. What on earth was Wilkes grand scheme in this movie? If he had a vendetta against McQuade, I didn't feel it, nor did I feel that McQuade was truly angry at what Wilkes did to his family and friends throughout the movie. I suppose that might be because Norris is so wooden and the plot was rather silly. As for Leon Isaac Kennedy's character, I have no idea what he was all about.

'Lone Wolf McQuade' is bettera trailer. It's a typical action film I guess. Not awful, but easily skipped. It has it's moments, and Barbara Carrera certain adds to the movie, but you'll wonder how she could fall for a guy like McQuade. Steve Carver (Big Bad Mama) has a long list of unmemorable films, and this is certainly one of them.

**½ out of *****! Texas Ranger "John 'JJ" McQuade" (Chuck Norris) is a loner who bucks authority. However, he will work with some people when he knows it's needed.

During some down time from work, "McQuade" meets a beautiful widow (Barbara Carrera), who is with the mysterious martial arts expert "Rawley Wilkes" (the late David Carradine), who tries to get "McQuade", who has a reputation for using martial arts while trying to apprehend criminals he goes after. However, "McQuade" turns down the challenge.

Now, "McQuade", along with his new partner "Deputy Kayo" (Robert Beltran", slowly learns of "Wilkes" shady background and go after him. But, federal agents try to stop them. However, "McQuade" makes it personal when his daughter (Dana Kimmell) is injured when she and a boyfriend witness a murder.

Let me say first that this is not the best action movie, but it really is a pretty good movie. This is not a shoot'em up, fisticuffs film where there is only brief moments for the audience to catch their breath. It is, however an actioner where the action is needed.

I really liked Norris in this role. He played "McQuade"a gentle man who preferred to be alone, but really loved those close to him. "McQuade" is one of those who only had to give you a look to tell you to back off, and Norris did a good job conveying itwell.

Many key supporting characters were barely developed, or not well developed. "Wilkes" and his boss (Daniel R. Frishman), a wheelchair-bound dwarf who has apparently crossed paths with "McQuade" many times in the past to the point that the Ranger knows when he tried to bluff him with an empty gold-plated pistol. The movie doesn't really tell us much about the two villains. In fact, I had to read online what "Wilkes" isa criminal. Most of these supporting characters were just there to move the story along, and to give "McQuade" motivation.

As for action,I said before, it's spaced out nicely through the movie. Maybe it's because this movie is almost 30 years old, the violence is pretty toned down. Of course, because of the two leads, there is martial arts fights sprinkled around more than gun fights and explosions. I would have liked to seen just a little more action than there was. However, the action scenes are handled well.

I wasn't impressed with the soundtrack in the movie, but the pieces of music is handled well and helps the scenes. I couldn't tell you any music from the movie if I heard it again, the music is pretty forgettable.

Despite the flaws, I enjoyed this movie. I wouldn't put it in your Must See List, but I'd check it out if you catch it on television. Lone Wolf gets mada bee-stung boxer dog.
